Mercy
“Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’” And He did. The Bible says, “Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes.”
This is the kind of God I need—a God of compassion. The kind of God that allowed an adulterer caught in the act to go free after some self-righteous leaders had accused her. They brought her to Jesus who bent down while they were still accusing her.
His finger moving. Scribbling in the sand. Their eyes watching. The case building against them. Glass upon glass. The brilliance of the facade, dashed across their faces. And they walked away with no further accusations.
The woman was free to go and sin no more. And we cannot help but wonder—did she go back to her lover’s arms or did she accept the challenge and walk away from this life of sin? What exactly did Jesus write in the sand?
Probably the sins of each man. And when they saw their own guilt, they put the stones down and went back inside their glasshouses.
Let's not get so wrapped up in trying to expose others that we fail to expose ourselves. Let's put the stones down and walk away.
