Stay Strong for God’s Sake

“You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. . . . You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. . . . So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.” —Ezekiel 28:13; 15-16

God told Satan, “Go thou from Eden! Go moan. Go groan. Go be lower than the belly of a snake. Go down to a place of isolation. No longer a matchless beauty. Never to rise again. Go down. Go shiver off the memory of how good you had it back then.”

Satan cast down—the tragedy of the universe. Now he seeks revenge. And he knows we are the sons and daughters of the King. So he attempts to wound God’s heart by crushing the ones He loves.

And Satan “masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). Every morsel of sin is succulent, exquisite, and seemingly gratifying. But soon wickedness transcends false light. And addiction becomes a craving wasteland.

So “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Our enemy is in the woods—waiting, crouching, sniffing out those to consume. Trying to hurt God by hurting us. So stay strong for God’s sake.

The knowledge of sin is the beginning of salvation." —Epicurus
